The U.S. State Department confirmed a top diplomat met in Qatar regarding Afghan national reconciliation issues but stopped short of mentioning the Taliban. Members of the Taliban expressed interest in opening a political liaison office in Qatar to serve as a base for reconciliation talks in Afghanistan.
