Kabul, Afghanistan (July 28, 2010) -- A representative from the Supreme Group presented a customized cricket display case to the CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board to honor their outstanding efforts in promoting their team into national prominence. Soren Norgaard is an executive officer with the Supreme Group and was one of the decision makers who sponsored the National Cricket Team during their T-20 tournament in the West Indies.
He said that he was proud to present the display to the Cricket board and that his company wants to establish a long-term sponsorship contract with the cricket organization in order to, “Unite the country through athletic competition and sportsmanship,” he said. The Supreme Foundation is fully committed in promoting the sport all over the country and is planning to give away 1000 cricket sets to schools in Kabul and within its surrounding provinces. Norgaard believes that the more cricket rackets his corporation can get into the hands of young people today, the fewer rifles will end up in their hands tomorrow.
The CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Hamid Shinwari, accepted the cricket display on behalf of the players, the coaches, and the people of Afghanistan. Shinwari said that he looks forward to working with the Supreme foundation in the future and that he hopes for a long and productive partnership. The Supreme Group is a global logistics organization that provides fuel, food, and logistical support primarily to military units deployed in challenging and hostile areas all over the world.
Here in Afghanistan the Supreme Group is reaching out to the local population in a gesture of goodwill and cooperation. The corporation plans to hire up to 1000 additional Afghanis as part of their efforts to emphasis support to the entire country. Currently over 1500 Afghanis work for Supreme. The bold, aggressive job initiative, along with the various charities that the Supreme Group sponsors will ensure that they remain committed to the future progress of the entire nation of Afghanistan.
The Cricket case holds an actual bat that was used during their T-20 tournament in the West Indies and is covered with the signatures of all of the participating players. There is a stand for one of the cricket balls within the case, and it too is autographed by the players. The case stands over a meter high and contains lights at the top base and a glass covering to shield the bat and ball from handling.
The ceremony lasted about 15 minutes and ended with a question and answer session hosted by Mr. Shinwari and Mr. Norgaard. In addition to members of the press and the Afghanistan Cricket staff, the event was also attended by the Chairman of the Afghan Business Council in Dubai, Mr. Haji Obaidullah Sader Khail.
